FRONT ROOM MUSIC ALBUM - ARTIST BIOS
DOUG TAYLOR
Sunshine Girl from FRONT ROOM MUSIC ALBUM
Doug Taylor, a multi-talented music man, spent his early years in Tulsa, OK, but got to Texas
as soon as he could. His love of the West grew as a teenager, when he rode his bike to see
Remington and Russell paintings in the Gilchrist museum. His first musical memory was hearing
Leon McAuliffe and the Red River Valley Boys come on KVOO after the stock report,
"take it away Leon, take it away". Another big influence was his Uncle Zach, whose country band
included banjo, fiddle and accordian. In high school, Doug traded his trumpet for a guitar.
Soon after, he was cruising the Texas circuit from the Checkered Flag in Austin to the 11th Door
in Lubbock with the Rebels 3. Since then, his soaring tenor voice, sweet mandolin and
dynamic bass playing have established him in Texas bluegrass and acoustic music circles.
Doug began performing with Jim Stricklan in Austin, Texas in the mid 1990's, as a member Jim and Larry's The Occassional Band. He is featured on several of Jim's albums as both a picker and singer. Jim and Doug share a duet
on a traditional tune, Twelve Gates to The City which is on the JACOB'S LADDER CD.
Doug performs with several gospel and bluegrass groups in east central and Texas.
